Pyrophyllite, Graves Mountain

hydrated aluminum silicate

Commonly found in the upper, east pit area, but has been found in all areas of the mine. Often associated with rutile, kyanite and hematite. Colors range from pure white, yellow, reddish brown and rarely, green. Pyrophyllite forms as radiating needles resembling flowers. Take special care when cleaning as it is very soft.
